"In Case of Failure"
This quote by General Dwight Eisenhower shows that he did not have complete confidence in the success of Operation Overlord. The good thing is this speech was never read to the public. This quote fits in perfectly with the other sources because it is by the man Eisenhower who came up with the possibility of D-Day. This source refutes the original thesis that we came up with as a team. The speech if D-Day failed by Eisenhower points us in a new direction now because there is the possibility that Eisenhower didn't have confidence with D-Day and the success of it working.
“Our landings have failed and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based on the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.”
This document itself was a large turning point in history because without it, the troops may have been stopped from attacking. The whole attack relied on this document. It is also a turning point because it showed that not even our own president had confidence in us, and beacuase the USA won the battle, it began to establish the USA as a world power. This document also allowed the US to enter the war, which is a turning point itself because without the USA entering the war, the Germans would have won and the world would be mostly taken over by Germany.
